Write for the Jugular

The 3: July 13, 2011

This week’s version of The 3 — three markets ready and waiting for your great work — begins with a scholarly stroll, then makes a sharp left into the unconventional.

The Iowa Review: Published by the University of Iowa, this is a top-notch quarterly that has just announced its 2012 contest for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The magazine accepts unsolicited submissions in September, October, and November only, but you have until the end of January to enter IR’s contest. Some very important people read this one, so go for it.

Amphibi.us:  A defiantly online magazine looking to bring down the print-is-king paradigm, Amphibi.us has a penchant for the strange and the short. Guaranteed you’ll find things published here that will make you say “Hmm, I never thought about that.”

Broken Pencil: A Canadian print magazine with special online content and some of the coolest Canucks in Toronto, BP is geared toward the hip and indie. It’s a great outlet for writers with strong voices.

Good luck, writers! Keep going for the jugular!
